The concept

The German Flat Panel Display Forum (DFF) is dedicating a special meeting to the topic automotive displays.
This so called DFF Automotive Platform will provide automotive manufacturers and the supply industry with an independent and neutral forum where they can discuss new technologies and developments.
We especially want to address topics where joint development and collaboration is needed.

The first meeting took place in 2007 and was looking at display interfaces and controllers and interfaces with integrated graphic controllers.
After introductory presentations to the topic, a plenary discussion on the necessity on the standardisation of display interfaces started. This discussion was intensified by two working groups: one by the automotive OEMs, the other by Tiers 1 to 3.

After a positive feedback from the first meeting, a second meeting was scheduled for 2008. This meeting started with plenary talks on new display technologies that are suitable for automotive applications. In the following discussion, benefits of this new technologies were discussed and compared to the requirements of the automotive manufacturers.

In the course of the discussion, the necessity of standardisation of the display interfaces was stressed again. Requirements for such a standard were worked out.

In spring 2009, after several meetings of the working groups "Link" and "Displays", the Automotive Platform met for a plenary session to give a status report on the work done so far and to decide on the further procedure. Another feedback and update was given during the DFF Working Group Meeting on "Automotive Diplays" in September 2009.
